Reading Across America

At A Mother’s Touch, learning is hands-on and full of heart! And for Pre-K 2, one particular project has us VERY excited!

The back story: In Pre-K 2, as part of Read Across America, we read The Book That Almost Rhymed by Omar Abed. After reading the book, we talked about what the brother and sister did to work together and how working together makes us better. We thought about different times we all have worked together with others to tell a story, play pretend, or come up with a solution to a problem. Afterwards, our kiddos teamed up to tell a progressive story about a knight and dragon, inspired by the magic of storytelling! Everyone took turns adding details to the story to make it move forward. Each child then illustrated a portion of the story to make our very own book.

But here’s the best part…both the actual author and the illustrator of the book read our story – and loved it! Check out the special video message that author Omar Abed sent just for our class.

Omar Abed and Meta Hatem, thank you for inspiring our little authors and artists to dream big and create boldly!

Stay tuned for June’s book, Leo and the Pink Marker by Mariyka Foster. In this story, when mom and mama aren’t looking, Leo takes the opportunity to liven up the dusty, gray scrapyard with his creativity and his pink marker. After reading, we’ll all lean into the opportunity to color outside of the lines!
