Preschool Classes

Preschool is for building lasting friendships and the mindsets of a life-long learner!

CReative Growth

Our classroom promotes learning through play and social experience and encourages hands-on exploration within interest centers. Our structured learning environment allows room for children to follow their curiosity, make choices, take risks, solve problems, stick with challenges, and imagine creative solutions!

Initiative and Independence

Initiative and Independence

Our routines empower children to independently engage in self-care practices that promote healthy living, from washing their hands to dressing themselves for outdoor play. Children engage in discussions about making safe choices. They take responsibility in their classroom by doing things for themselves, by helping others, and by taking care of their materials in their learning environment, all of which lays the foundation for a caring, engaged classroom community.

Strong Confident Bodies

Strong, Confident Bodies

Preschoolers build motor skills through exploration, everything from picking up pompoms up with tweezers to using chopsticks in dramatic play! To prepare small muscles for the multifaceted work of writing, children engage in increasingly complex fine motor activities such as lacing, cutting, drawing, and approximating letters to represent written words. Our children also spend much time outside each day building large muscle strength, balance, and endurance while climbing, jumping, and running!

Social Emotional Intelligence

Social Emotional Intelligence

Friendships grow in preschool! Teachers nurture these friendships with gentle guidance and support in building social skills. It takes a lot of confidence to invite others to play or to join children in play that has already started!

Showing care for others and speaking up for yourself are skills that are modeled and acknowledged. Through open-ended questions, children are prompted to communicate their needs, desires, and feelings.  Teachers guide children to show increasing levels of independence and persistence when problem solving. Teachers co-regulate and practice ways for children to manage big feelings.

Early Literacy Skills

We support each preschooler in developing strong identities and desires as readers! Our classroom libraries are full of engaging stories that children love, stories that rotate based on children’s interests and the themes of learning activities. Through shared writing experiences, children come to understand that writers write for different purposes. Children are introduced to story dictation as they describe what’s happening in their artwork and see teachers transcribe their spoken words into written words on the page. Children build phonological awareness through playful introduction to sounds, syllables, and rhyming. Our classrooms are bursting with playful, rich language in the form of stories, poems, songs, and conversation!

Curiosity and STEAM

Curiosity and STEAM Exploration

Children learn fundamental concepts of math and science through experiments and hands-on activities involving building, cooking, counting, measuring, and sorting. Children tinker with loose parts and engage in open-ended STEAM design challenges. These start with a story from our STEAM library, and what follows is often a days-long project with a problem to solve. Creativity, persistence, and flexible thinking emerge!
